UNS - Unified Numbering System
An explanation of the UNS system:
The UNS (Unified Numbering System) is a joint publication of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc. and the American Society for Testing and Materials. There are over 4000 designations of metals and metallic alloys and it is a means of correlating many nationally used metal and alloys numbering systems.A UNS designation is not, in itself, a specification, since it establishes no requirements for form, condition, property or quality. It is a unified identifier of a metal or an alloys for which controlling limits have been established in specifications published elsewhere.
