AOD refining

Argon Oxygen Refining (AOD) of a duplex stainless steel prior to casting in a 32-inch ingot mould. Ultra-low sulphur content of 0.001 is achieved by the AOD process; because of this, and the low levels of impurities, high impact properties at low temperatures can be achieved in duplex stainless steels.

Ingots for re-forging

A selection of 4.600kg, 24-inch ingots in specialist materials ready for despatch to the forge.

Alloys include super nickel alloys such as 625 & 825; precipitation hardening alloys and close composition materials.

All ingots are bottom poured through ceramic running systems. This gives improved surface with cleaner, sounder ingots, and the higher yields.

Retaining rings for jet engines

Goodwin have supplied over 700 tonnes of Nitronic Alloys for ring rolling into retaining rings for Rolls Royce jet engines.

This critical application demands a controlled manufacturing route and proven cleanliness.

These are high specification precision forged and rolled rings and casings up to 4 metres (12') diameter, flash butt-welded rings from 450mm-1520mm (18"-60") diameter; seamless precision rolled rings to 1000mm diameter.
