Robotic welding of a nozzle cover
A twin cell, 4 station robotic TIG welding machine, located at Goodwin's machine shop, allows consistent quality welds to be made at high production rates.
The photograph shows a 304L stainless steel burner nozzle for a gas turbine having the inserts for the flow passages welded in. |

Fabricated 600MW MSV casting
This 13,500kg 600MW two port Main Steam Valve is manufactured from two large castings which are joined by submerged arc welding.
By using this technique a fabricated single-component of 18,000kg can be produced.
After fabrication the weld is radiographed using a 8.5MeV linear accelerator. |

Welding of 600MW RSV and IV castings
Two intercept valve casting being welded onto a twin outlet re-heat valve. After welding the post weld heat treatment is carried out using ceramic heater pads which are processor controlled and have thermocouple readout traces.
After welding the machining is completed and then the valves are supplied fully assembled. |

Fabricated 600MW RSV and IV assemblies
The photograph shows a pair of 600MW RSV-IV fabrications on stands ready for assembly.
Over 60 of these assemblies have been fabricated by Goodwin. The ship weight of each fully assembled item is 24,000kg.
Fabricated assemblies up to 50,000kg can be handled. |

330MW MSV and interceptor valves
These valves are manufactured from a combination of castings and forgings fabricated together by welding. They are shown undergoing intermediate hardness testing inspection after the post-weld heat-treatment.
Ship weight of one unit is 12,600kgs. |

Super Nickel Alloy 625 Steam Gland
This steam gland is manufactured in a NiCrMoNb alloy 625, the forgings and piping are fabricated onto the casting by TIG and MMA welding followed by radiography of the welds.
Due to the chemical composition and thermal characteristics of this super nickel alloy careful control is needed during the welding stages. |
